The Dolphin Centre was formally known as the Arndale Centre, it opened in 1969 and was inspired by malls in America. The shopping centre was refurbished in 1989 costing £8 million and took on the new name, The Dolphin Centre. it underwent another multi-million refurbishment in 2004 when the whole interior was modernized.

Stores currently in The Dolphin Centre include:

  • Argos
  • Beales
  • BHS
  • Boots
  • Card Factory
  • Dorothy Perkins
  • Greggs
  • Hawkins Bazaar
  • HMV
  • Next

There are lots of spaces specifically for kiosks and stalls in The Dolphin Centre, many were empty when I conducted my site visit. Main kiosks include, a large Starbucks counter and some small stalls like a Martin’s news agents and some cosmetic stands, others were cars for sale and people advertising. Spaces specifically for kiosks and stalls are marked with black lino in a square or circle area on the floor and many were empty.
